历史上巴西国家队曾经5次夺取这项足球运动的最高荣誉，1950年巴西也曾经承办过世界杯，但是在那届赛事中，他们却在决赛中不敌乌拉圭而痛失冠军。在宣布巴西成为2014年世界杯主办国后，布拉特表示：“有些国家中途退选，这让人很遗憾。不过这次竞选依然是美好的，一切都在我们的控制之内。足球是一项竞技比赛，不过这次的竞选却缺乏竞争。”

祁宏，1976年6月3日出生于上海，中国职业足球运动员。在中国顶级职业联赛曾效力于上海申花俱乐部、上海中远俱乐部，主要司职中场进攻组织和影子前锋，1995年获得甲A联赛冠军(随上海申花队)。1998年首次入选中国国家队，在2002年韩日世界杯亚洲区预选赛第二阶段，攻入三个关键入球，是中国队打入决赛阶段的主要功臣。2007年1月，因伤病等原因宣布退役。2010年10月，祁宏卷入中国足坛反黑调查；2012年6月，沈阳中级人民法院以“非国家工作人员受贿罪”一审判处祁宏有期徒刑5年6个月，2016年9月2日出狱。
